Fun with Oars
Here’s a question some guy me and the crew about crew (rowing) at two high fallootin universities over in what seamen mean by LOL (Land of Limeys). We would’ve had no interest in such nancy boy stuff except we’re rowing after the whale right now. So we tried. As usual, we couldn’t solve it. I’ll pass it along here (as usual, the winner gets scrimshawed if they trust Flarq):

The first time Cambridge raced Oxford in an “eights” event this year, Cambridge go trounced. The second time, with a better-ordered boat, they went out on the river Eel and got even. The local newspaper happily reported: “Eights event won on Eel - even!” The order in the boat was key. If they can only manage to keep the same order, they can repeat their success in the deciding race of the series against Oxford later in the season. However, only the reporter could remember which eight oarsmen had been selected from the thirteen in the club and their positions in the boat. He reported that each of the eight crew had a unique team number from 0-12, the numbers of the club members and that number 3 was four places from 7, 4 sat somewhere in front of 2, and 5 was some place behind 0. Can you give the crew order viewed from the bow?
